Jackie Shearer

TIFTON — Jackie Shearer, 69, of Chula, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial to follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Randall Gay and the Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate.

Mrs. Shearer’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Thursday night at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Shearer was born Nov. 11, 1934 in Tift County to James Edwin Sumner Sr. and Ruby Clayton Sumner, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenny Shearer, who died in 1969.

Mrs. Shearer lived in Tift County most of her life. She graduated from Tifton High School in 1951 where she was a star basketball player. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She had worked as Tift County water clerk and also in the Tift County Probate Judge’s office. Mrs. Shearer was an avid camper.

Mrs. Shearer is survived by her husband, Clifford Shearer of Chula; two brothers, J.E. “Bud” Sumner Jr. and Burrell Sumner, both of Chula; four sisters, Janette Shaw of Tifton, June Pitts of Green Cove Springs, Fla. and Joy Schmitt and Dianne Carr, both of Chula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted but donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors Tiftarea Chapter is in charge of arrangements.



Mae Marie Tillman Sinclair

NORMAN PARK — Mae Marie Tillman Sinclair, 77, of 185 W. Bryant St., Norman Park, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Gene Sheffield will officiate.

Mrs. Sinclair was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Tift County to the late Versie Willis Tillman and the late John Thomas Tillman. She was a homemaker and a member of Norman Park United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Joseph Sinclair.

Survivors include two sons, Kip Sinclair of Norman Park and Billy Wayne Tillman Sr. and wife Gayle of Coolidge; two daughters, Brenda Hilton and husband Mike of Tifton and Connie English and husband Chuck of Hartsfield; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Jody and Greg Hilton, Caleb, Brett and Lacy English, Billy Wayne Jr. and Brianna Tillman and Justin Calhoun; six great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Grace McGhee Hale

TIFTON — Grace McGhee Hale, 80, of Tifton, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at her residence. Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. A.D. Connell and the Rev. Shane Lipp officiated. Burial will followed at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Larry Kendrick, Joe Hale, Dwayne Hester, Travis Craven, Chett Ray, Curt Hale, Jed Hale and Larry Hale will serve as pallbearers.

Born April 8, 1923 in Tift County, Mrs. Hale was the daughter of Dewey Cleveland McGhee and Beulah Goddard McGhee, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewel Sylvester Hale, and a brother.

A housewife, Mrs. Hale was a member of New River Holiness Church.

She is survived by four sons, Billy Hale of Georgetown, Norman Hale of Brookfield, Connie Hale of Manchester and Cleveland Hale of Brookfield; four daughters, Julie Kendrick of Woodland, Dorise Yancey of Brookfield, Margie Craven of Jacksonville, Fla., Martha Odell of Tifton; sisters, Rachel Hale and Alice Padgett, both of Brookfield, Hazel Cattell of Tifton and Ruth Carrin of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Harce McGhee of Brookfield; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
