Sara Doss Barr

TIFTON — Sara Doss Barr, 81, of Tifton, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the home of her daughter in Atlanta.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton. The Rev. John S. Gibbs Sr. will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Barr was born on Nov. 2, 1923, in Deland, Fla. She was the daughter of Emmett Doss and Georgia Doss, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion Keith Barr, who died in 2001.

Mrs. Barr was a lifelong resident of Tifton and a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tifton.

Mrs. Barr is survived by her son, John Keith Barr of Vidalia; a daughter, Suzanne Barr of Atlanta; and two grandsons, Jacob Barr and Dustin Barr.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.



James Owen

George

ADEL — James Owen George, 74, better known as Jimmy George, died at his home on Oct. 5, 2005, after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Adel. The Rev. Ben Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home on U.S. Highway 41 South.

Mr. George was born on June 7, 1931, to Cleon Clifford and Julia Bickers George. He lived all his life in Cook County and was a member of the 1949 State Championship football team, a U.S. Marine and a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Adel where he served as chairman of the Baptism committee and counting committee. He was retired from Kraft General Foods. He was a retired volunteer fireman with the Adel Fire Department.

Survivors include his dearly special lady friend, Sherry Shealey of Adel; one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Tina George of Adel; two daughters and one son-in-law, Julie and Mike Carter of Adel and Rhonda Storey of Adel and special friend John Holcombe Jr. of Valdosta; one brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Mary Ruth George of Adel; and one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Brad Johnson of Adel. He had seven grandchildren that he truly adored, which includes Matt Carter, Mandy Carter, Heather Green, Brooke Storey, Lindsay George, Hunter Dunn and Gunner George. He also had numerous nieces and nephews that he truly loved which includes Janet and Jamie George, Greg Johnson, on his side of the family as well as Jimmy, Johnny, Jackie, Jerry Wayne, Lou Jean, Jeffrey, Rodney, Randy, Vaughn, Bill, Larry, Linda, Judy, Mary, Ray, Teresa, Greg Edmondson, Buddy, Patsy, Margie, Debra, Brenda Joyce, David Johnson, Lee Ann and Annette Hendricks on his wife’s side of the family.

Additional survivors are his dear loving wife’s family, Hack and Audrey Edmondson of Morven, Nona Mae Johnson of Quitman, Remer and Jane Edmondson of Quitman, Bobby and Ruth Edmondson of Hahira, Gerry and Terry Hendricks of Lohrville, Iowa, and of Adel during the winter months.

He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Kathryn George; his father and mother-in-law, William Jackson and Anna Mae Edmondson; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Junior and Wilma Edmondson and Charles Johnson, and one nephew Christopher Lee George.

Flowers will be accepted or a love donation may be made to United Hospice, 101 Northside Drive, Building C., Valdosta, GA 31602.

Mildred Ann

Peacock McEntyre

OMEGA — Mildred Ann Peacock McEntyre, 74, of Omega, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Ernest Jefferson and the Rev. Jimmie Hinson officiating. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors — Tiftarea Chapel.

Jerry Watts, Raymond Dorman, Buddy McEntyre, Wayne McEntyre, Shannon McEntyre and Josh McEntyre will serve pallbearers.

Mrs. McEntyre was born on March 30, 1931, in Emanuel County to Freeman J. Peacock and Queenie Annie Elizabeth Prater Peacock, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer McEntyre, who died in 2000; a daughter, Betty Watts, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson, all of whom died in 2004.

Mrs. McEntyre had lived most of her life in Tift County. She was a homemaker and she was of the Baptist denomination.

Surviving Mrs. McEntyre are three sons and three daughters-in-law, Ray and Shirley McEntyre of Turner County, Hollis and Lillie McEntyre of Irwin County and Tommy and Barbara McEntyre of Tift County; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Mike Ragan of Tifton and Ann and Billy Bromlow of Tift County; a son-in-law, Jerry Watts of Colquitt County; one sister, Corrine Williams of Turner County; 16 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Rowan Morrison

ATLANTA — Ruth Rowan Morrison, 83, of Atlanta, died in Atlanta Monday, Oct. 3, 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

Mrs. Morrison was the daughter of the late Dr. William Rowan and Claudia Williford Rowan of Tifton. She had one sister, the late Sarah Rowan Kerby of St. Augustine, Fla. She was married to the late Francis Holden Morrison, originally of Thomason.

Mrs. Morrison held a degree in home economics from the University of Georgia and a masters degree in nutrition from Western Reserve University. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

She is survived by a niece, Deborah Taylor, currently living in Brazil, and a cousin, Karen Faught Grice of Atlanta, daughter of the late Martha Gordon Williford Faught.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree St., N.E., Atlanta, GA 30309.
