Bertha Robertson

NASHVILLE – Bertha Robertson, 95, of Nashville, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Berrien Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville. The Rev. Glynn Rowell and the Rev. Jackie Connell will officiate. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

“Mrs. Bertha” always said she wanted her flowers while she was alive, not after death. Memorials are requested to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Boys Ranch in Hahira or United Hospice in Valdosta.

Born Feb. 18, 1908, in Clay County, Ala., Mrs. Robertson was the daughter of George Walker and Savannah Strickland, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Comer Robertson, who died in 1988; a daughter and son-in-law, Jimmie Faye and Ralph Garrison, and a great-grandson, Zackery.

A homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith, she had resided on the family farm in the Allenville community since 1941. The county road which runs through the farm has been named Bertha Robertson Road.

Mrs. Robertson is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Dr. Ralph Tillman of Buford and Charlotte and Jimmy O’Steen of Branford, Fla.; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mandy Lucille Whaley Balderas

TIFTON – Mandy Lucille Whaley Balderas, 44, of Tifton, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dean McKinney will officiate. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Born May 31, 1959, in Worth County, Mrs. Balderas was the daughter of Mandy Blair Whaley of Tifton and the late Edward McConnell Whaley.

She was employed with the Tift County Health Department as a registered nurse and was a member of Grace Fellowship Church.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Balderas is survived by her husband, Juan Balderas of Tifton; two daughters, Rachael Elizabeth Balderas and Rayne Daniel Balderas, both of Tifton; three brothers, Edward McConnell Jr. of Norman Park and Roy David Whaley and Jessie Lee Whaley, both of Tifton; and four sisters, Minnie Stephens of Coleman, Fla., and Irene Whaley Arellano, Kathy Whaley and Virginia Whaley Pineda, all of Tifton.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals was in charge of arrangements.



‘Bob’ Fordham

LENOX – Robert Huey “Bob” Fordham, 88, of Lenox, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Union Grove Church of God. The Rev. Jesse Ogden and the Rev. Joe Crumley will officiate. Burial will follow at Eldorado Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Stevie Matthews, Scott Burgess, Bobby Fordham, Lance Golden, Jason Golden and Harmon Tawzer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Rooks, Parker Denny, H.C. Medford, Bob Burdette, Harris Lee Crumley, Lee Ball, Pleamon Golden, Bobby Hinson, Clifford Dominque, Leonard Crumley, Comer Crumley, L.A. Crumley, B.S. Crumley, Henry Crumley Jr., Casey Denny and Michael Denny.

The body will be placed in the church one hour before services.

Born June 20, 1915, in Heflin (Cleburne County), Ala., Mr. Fordham was the son of James “Jim” McGee Fordham and Tinie F. Crumley Fordham, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Grady L. Fordham and Earl Fordham; one sister, Pearl Gray; one grandson, Chris Turnmire; and one great-grandson, William Marchant Jr.

Mr. Fordham had lived in Lenox for 86 years and was a retired farmer/businessman. He was a member of Union Grove Church of God.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James L. (Jesse) and Carolyn Fordham of Kennesaw, Charles R. and Carol Fordham of Macon and Michael (Mike) and Tammy Fordham of Eldorado; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Ann and Bill Turnmire, Donna P. and Steve Matthews and Mary Lynn and Wayne Rooks, all of Eldorado; one brother, Roy B. Fordham of Jackson Gap, Ala.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Martha Montine Evans Cooper

MOULTRIE – Martha Montine Evans Cooper, 81, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Magnolia Manor South Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie. The Rev. Johnny Cooper and the Rev. Saunders Pinckard will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose of Sharon Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leon Cooper, Johnny Cooper, Selmer Cooper Jr., Donald Cooper, Mark Cooper, Bruce Gottfried, William J. Cooper and Timothy Cooper.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cobb Funeral Chapel. They may be contacted at 2969 Doerun Road, the home of Stacey and Bill Martin.

Born Dec. 1, 1921, in Wheeler County, Mrs. Cooper was the daughter of John Evans and Martha Selph Evans, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Selmer Lee Cooper Sr., and by a son, Robbie Irwin Cooper.

She was a homemaker and a member of Doerun First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by four sons, Leon Edwin Cooper and wife, Dolores, of Moultrie, Johnny Wayne Cooper and wife, Darlene, of Coolidge, Selmer Lee Cooper Jr. and wife, Mary L., of Moultrie and Donald Jimmy Cooper and wife, Charlotte, of Tifton; two sisters, Louvina Palmer of Lyons and Lillian Konzelman of Sylvester; seven grandchildren, Mark Cooper, Bruce Cooper, Timothy Cooper, Stacey Martin, Kimberly Burch, William J. Cooper and Lori E. James; and 12 great-grandchildren.
