Rant and Rave for August 1, 2002

Should’ve learned
“About the animal shelter, if they had left the people that were working there to start with and were doing such a good job, the humane society would still be with them and they wouldn’t be having these problems. They were doing a good job, but people couldn’t leave them alone.”
Time for punishment
“I’m a protester who is responding to the Rant of the day about the Corey Ward case. How would you feel if that was your child gunned down for nothing, which it wasn’t justified. But if the law doesn’t punish the policeman who shot him, God will.”
Need blue lights
“This is for ‘Blue lights.’ I’m concerned about the deaths and accidents on I-75 within construction zones. We need some blue lights out there. The DOT needs to set up a safety patrol, several at all construction sites. Enforce speed and collect those excessive fines, which would pay for itself. The yellow lights are not getting people’s attention. State troopers and local deputy sheriffs are not enough. They have other duties. Let’s get some blue lights out there, even if the state has to legislate a new DOT construction safety patrol, and let them use blue lights.”
Simple courtesy
“You know, when I was coming up, it was never put to the test that you always said ‘Excuse me,’ ‘please,’ and ‘thank you.’ Those were the three words that were used in our house. Now, I’m not saying that it’s not being done now, but it’s not being used. When people go in a store and they need to get by, maybe the person ahead of them doesn’t see them. You know, all you have to do is say ‘excuse me’ instead of just standing there and grunt like a pig. I’ve been working in retail for 50 years, and some of these people that come in, and they’re not only just children, the older people, they do not say excuse me, they stand there and they go from one foot to the other foot, and they think that you owe them a living.”
Not a racial thing
“This white and black racial thing has got to stop. The example in Atlanta with the police officer shooting the gentleman that ran over him, I don’t care if you’re green, if you try to run over me, I’m going to shoot you too.”
Can’t walk for dogs
“You know, the police need to come to the high school track, the old high school track, about 5 or 6 in the morning. It’s a shame you try to walk and the dogs are out there walking too. People are bringing their dogs on the track. You cannot walk for the dogs.”
No fair system
“I’m calling regarding the article on child support. What about the good fathers who pay child support and the mother who has custody uses the children as power tools? She tries to drain the father’s income due to her own bitterness. I agree that receipts need to be provided as to where the child support money goes and what it’s being used for. This money is being used for many things other than child support. Just because you have custody, you should not be given this much power and no accountability to anyone.”
