Hateful words
“Each day, I read the Rant and Rave and each day I’m amazed by the hate that the residents of the Tiftarea spew. While I know that The Gazette won’t print this Rant because its editors are cowards, I do want to say that I’ve never seen a more hate-filled feature than the Rant and Rave, packed with anti-ethnic slurs, defenses of moronic actions, and completely selfish aggrandizing. Tifton, grow up. The world is larger than you.”
Show some respect
“When parents or others hoot and yell and carry on about a particular graduate, the name of the next graduate is drowned out. When parents or others get up and leave graduation before the conclusion of the ceremony, it interferes with the rights of others present. Such behavior is rude, uncivilized and inexcusable.”
Lasting memories
“Thank you, Len Lastinger, for the unforgettable memories. The retirement reception was magnificent. I’ll miss working with such a caring group of people. You are a blessing to Tift County, and I loved being a member of the faculty for those years. Thank you.”
Gracious helpers
“I would like to thank the people who came to my aid the Saturday before Mother’s Day when I fell at the parking lot at the mall. They were very gracious and very kind and helped me to get up and get to my car and they were concerned about me driving but I was fine. I would like to thank them very much for their help. Thank you.”
A wonderful experience
“This is a Rave for the faculty and staff at Northeast. Mr. Phillips, a special thanks to you, your personnel and teachers for my child’s wonderful ninth-grade experience.”
Wasting resources
“I have a Rant about the Turner County Sheriff’s Department’s investigator. I live in Turner County, and when I travel I-75 to and from work I have noticed the investigator sitting in the median on Interstate 75. If he spent as much time investigating the Wideman case as he does sitting in the median, the suspects might be in jail by now.”
Where’s the money?
“I’m concerned that we were told the other day at a meeting that Northeast Campus doesn’t have the money that they need. I thought Mr. Abbott said our school system was in good shape. What’s the problem?”
Sonny will be gone
“I agree with the person that wrote in Rant and Rave concerning Perdue. You know, he promised that he’d get our flag back, or at least let us vote on it. I don’t care what flag we’ve got as long as the Georgia people get to vote on it and decide for themselves. But he went ahead and signed the one that they gave to him and if he’d have vetoed that, well, the old rag that Leroy put up there would still be flying in certain places, but most people don’t fly it, never did, and the next session of the General Assembly we could have another round about it, because we don’t like the one that he approved and we definitely didn’t like the rag that Barnes put up there.”
Need a laugh?
“I’m elated to see that the Hysterical Society of Tifton, while protecting at every turn the imaged historocity of every aged house in this affair and its assumed right to tell citizens whether or not they can repair or renovate or remove their properties, it has seen fit to protect the ‘streetscape’ through allowing a Barnum and Bailey paint job on the southeast corner of Love and Eighth Street. The Hysterical Society is laughable.”
