Proud of Jimmy
“All these people calling the Rant and Rave and talking about Jimmy Carter not being a good man. Jimmy Carter is one humanitarian that this country should be proud of. I am proud he is a Georgian and I am proud to be a Georgian along with him.”
No customer service
“I am fed up with stores that advertise items they do not have, even on the first day of a sale. Businesses wonder why we don’t shop in Tifton. Why should we when there is nothing here we want? Also, some stores are war zones with boxes piled everywhere. Management promises to do better but never does. One store even had a holy tee shirt on the rack for sale. I think the Chamber of Commerce should look into this. Until there is a change, I will tell people not to shop at these stores.”
Fix the crossing
“I would like to know if someone can fix the railroad crossing on South Central and Martin Luther King Drive please. It is a very dangerous railroad crossing. Please, can someone fix it?”
Limit the ads
“Let’s better Tifton. Redundant ads and road sign money to be used as a plus for Tift County. Each local candidate should have one newspaper ad and limited road signs. Instead, pledge money wasted on repeating them to a local organization such as Ruth’s Cottage, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Brother Charlie’s, 911, the police or sheriff’s department, or, better yet, why not each candidate choose a school of their choice and donate money to better the future generations of our community or other organizations, etc. Let’s see which candidate can truly use their campaign money and the taxpayers money more wisely.”
Hit it on the head
“I have a Rave for Chris Beckham. Way to go on your article Saturday. Are you running for anything? I would like to vote for you.”
The same crime
“You know it appalls me that in every state in the union, first degree murder is described as the premeditated with forethought to take someone’s life. President George Bush is doing exactly the same thing when he is threatening war on Iraq. It is a premeditated with malice and forethought to go over there and kill these people and mass murder them. That is first degree murder. Our constitution says that, it guarantees it. Why can’t the American people understand what our constitution says first degree murder is and try as best we can possibly do and oust this person that we have? Wake up America and smell the roses or watch the blood up to the bridle of the horse like the Bible tells you.”
Need more help
“I am really appalled at the fact that when the Tift County residents go into their mega markets that you have got two to 20 people waiting in line on a Saturday and you can’t get checked out. What does it take for me to spend my money? I want to spend my money with you but I have got to wait 10, 15 or 20 minutes at time to spend my money with you. Why don’t these mega stores get away from their profiteering and try to come back with service?”
Bad timing
“Irritated, frustrated, infuriated, and that is just the beginning. For the past week around dinnertime, my phone has rung and because I have an aging mother living in another state and because I have children in college outside of Tifton, I have placed my napkin on the table and I have answered the phone. In the beginning, I was surprised by recorded messages that droned on about the supposed wrongs committed by the opponents of the various candidates. Have these calls encouraged me to vote for any of the candidates? No, if anything the vitriolic blathering of the recorded voice pushed me away from even considering the candidates they supported. My family, though we have been reduced in number now that the children are away at school, still sits down to dinner and we cherish our opportunity to share conversation. You know, if there had been a human being on the end of the phone, I could have politely told them that it was a bad time for their call, but my opportunity to share my thoughts with the caller was stolen from me. My voice was silenced by a pre-recorded message – and their chance
at receiving my vote was lost.”
