Rant and Rave for Sept. 2, 2004

Liberal to the Max

“Max Cleland lost the Senate election not because of any attack ads, but because he was too liberal for Georgia.”

Don’t change it

“Leave as it is. Why change the name of the new police department just because the city council wants it? The policemen are the ones who protect our town. Leave it as it is. They are the ones who work the long, late hours.”

Too many coaches

“As for the Rant ‘More attention’ concerning other sports coverage other than football in the paper, I have one better than that. Why does the football team have at least 11 coaches, and that is varsity alone, and some sports such as soccer only have two coaches to coach over 120 kids on six teams at the middle, JV and varsity level? I’m sure there are other sports that are neglected as well.”

It’s their right

“On Cleland’s efforts to cover the challenging of John Kerry’s Vietnam record, sure, he went to Vietnam too. Maybe his own story needs research. Why try to shut Zell Miller up? Should any of us who have Democratic votes in the past have to change our parties? We can still vote for whoever we prefer among the candidates. It’s still one of our freedoms. Maybe this party affiliation needs to have the problem looked at nationwide as well as on our county level.”

Fixing my own

“When I go to a Tifton restaurant here, I just carry my little mini-bottle of alcohol with me and I order the drink that’s non-alcoholic and then I pour my alcohol in it and stir it up and I enjoy my drink here in Tifton instead of driving to Albany. Lots of other folks do too. So I don’t know why you want to keep alcohol out of Tifton. It’s already here, and it’s going to stay.”

Paying the bill

“The Alday murders and the Morris crematory degradations of bodies are two of the most dastardly events in Georgia history, with no real closure for families. Now who really pays the $80 million settlement? We, the farm people of Georgia having Georgia Farm Bureau insurance. Can planting bodies really be classed as farming?”

Lawyers in control

“How will America fare with two millionaire trial lawyers second in command? Every week there are more and more suits and recalls with class-action suits. Lawyers are the only ones who are the gainers. Even our own beloved Tift Regional Medical Center and all the good people who are involved with our health care are being assailed, especially when their concern with the elderly and the poor make up a good portion of their work with the area’s needy.”

A little help please

“This Rant is for the South Central Avenue recycling collection site. Why can’t we senior citizens have some help removing our containers from our vehicles? As it is, we struggle to get them out and take them to a table where we are told to dump them. If we have cardboard, we are told to take it over to one of the large containers.”

A real flip-flopper

“For anyone reading the Tifton Gazette, if you think flip-flop has been an issue in this election, listen at this: Yesterday, Monday, Bush tells us the war on terrorism cannot be won. Less than 24 hours later he recants his statement and says it can be won. Talk about flip-flop. Join Zell Miller and join John McCain in the Bush regime who has totally capitalized and proven the word flip-flop.”
