SYLVESTER – Two parades, a carnival, an arts and craft show and a street dance are on tap this week as the 39th annual Georgia Peanut Festival gets under way in Sylvester.
The carnival begins today on Highway 82 just east of Sylvester and will run through Saturday, with pony rides, rock climbing, clowns and bungee jumping.
Activities planned Thursday include the Junior Peanut Parade, a children’s event with awards for Best Wagon, Best Bicycle and Best Pedestrian, and the Farmers’ Appreciation Barbecue. Lineup for the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Worth County Courthouse, and the invitation-only barbecue will be held at 7 p.m. at the Worth County Agricultural Pavilion.
Saturday events will kick off at 10 a.m. with the grand Peter Pan Peanut Butter Parade. Vendors will sell arts and crafts all day at Jeffords Park, alongside an antique tractor display and the music of country and western singer Michael Stacey.
A street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight at Jeffords Park with the Missin’ Links will wrap up the weekend’s festivities.
Parade riders and arts and crafts vendors may still sign up by contacting the Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce at 776-7718.
