Man killed in one-car accident

TIFTON — A 20-year-old Sycamore man was killed in a single-vehicle accident at 12:20 a.m. Sunday on I-75 northbound, near exit 71.
According to a spokesperson with the Georgia State Patrol Post 13 in Tifton, Shawn Martinez was thrown from the black 2005 Chevy Cobalt after it went off the interstate and rolled to a stop on the east side of the access road that runs beside the interstate.
According to the police report, the driver, Rebecca Worth, 17, stated that she and Martinez were arguing when he grabbed the steering wheel from her hands and jerked it to the right, causing them to run off of the road.
Worth was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center after sustaining injuries and is reported in stable condition. There are no charges against her at this time.
According to Martinez’s obituary, he is survived by his son, Jayden Shawn Martinez; his mother, Bonita Faye Fowler Fletcher Delgado Elias, both of Sycamore; a brother and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church where Martinez was a member with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn.
