Mary Dabney McCartney

TIFTON — Mary Dabney McCartney, 52, of Tifton, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Glenn Martin will officiate with a private burial to be held at a later date. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Wednesday at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church.

Miss McCartney was born on May 14, 1956 in Dallas, Texas, and was the daughter of Wright McCartney of Tifton and the late Muriel Wash McCartney. She was retired, having been an active registered nurse for 22 years. She graduated from Georgia State College with a BSN degree and was a member of the Alpha Z. Delta Sorority. She was an accomplished needlepoint artist and her beautiful needlepoint work was part of the Needlework Project of St. Phillip’s in Atlanta. She also started the Needlework Program at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Tifton and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tifton.

In addition to her father, Miss McCartney is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas Wright McCartney Jr. and his wife, Edie, of Kent, Wash.; one sister, Carol Ann McCartney of Aurora, Col.; her nieces and nephews, Sean McCartney, Jacob McCartney, Kathryn “Katey” McCartney and Ian McCartney; an aunt, Miriam Cauthen; several cousins; and best friend, Karen Cook of Athens.

Flowers will be accepted or gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Tifton’s First United Methodist Church.
