Nora Hampton

WATERLOO — Mary Lenora Bledsoe Hampton, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 17, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at Grace Baptist Church in Mystic with the Rev. Garland Odum officiating. Burial will follow at the Waterloo Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Jerry Camp, Shane Hampton, Shon Hampton, Buddy Hampton, Adam Hampton, Brill Hampton, Colby Godwin and Will Godwin will serve as pallbearers. Huey Parten, Frankie Spurlock, Willis Terrell and Scotty Stringer will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born Aug. 16, 1925, in Tift County to the late Samuel Grady Bledsoe and Mary Carr Bledsoe, Mrs. Hampton was also preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel “Buddy” Hampton, who died in 1989; a grandson, Scott Hampton, who died in 1990; and three brothers, Jessie Bledsoe, Harvey Bledsoe and Buford Bledsoe.

Mrs. Hampton, a homemaker, was involved in home demonstration projects. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church in Mystic where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Hampton was a wonderful cook, mother, and grandmother. She loved to quilt and crochet. She was a caregiver, giving love and attention to her friends and family in need. Mrs. Hampton was a hard-working farmer’s wife.

Mrs. Hampton is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Harrell and Ellen Hampton of Warner Robins, Derrell and Connie Hampton and Danny and Beth Hampton, all of Waterloo; two brothers, Royce Bledsoe of Macon and Vernon Bledsoe of Fitzgerald; three sisters, Leila Denby of Sylvester, Inez Myers of Lawrenceville, and Nell Floyd of Macon; her grandchildren, Shane Hampton, Shon and Jennifer Hampton, Mary Beth and Joe Haire, Sonya Godwin, Amy Hampton, Adam and Alana Hampton, Buddy Hampton, Brill Hampton and Bonet’ Hampton; and seven great-grandchildren.
