Worth McCrary

TIFTON — Ernest “Worth” McCrary, 91, of Tifton died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at Tift Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty with the Rev. Jim Duggan officiating and burial to follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. McCrary’s grandsons, Wayne McCrary Jr., Tommy McCrary, Timmy McCrary, Kris McCrary, Wade Young, Wyatt Young and Andrew McCrary, will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Stacy Hambright, Andrea Apple and Alison McCrary.
Mr. McCrary was born April 2, 1918 in Gordon County and was the son of Elbert C. McCrary and Ada Thomas McCrary, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He was a retired farmer from Goldkist and from 20 years with the Tift County School System as a bus driver. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served for two years aboard President Roosevelt’s yacht. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty.
Mr. McCrary is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Cora Belle McFarland McCrary of Tifton; three sons, Wayne McCrary of Minnesota, Frank McCrary of Tifton and Glynn McCrary of Valdosta; two daughters, Deborah Young of Apex, N.C., and Lynn McCrary of Tifton; three brothers, Howard McCrary of Tifton, Earl McCrary of Birmingham, Ala., and E.J. McCrary of Waco, Texas; four sisters, Doris Johnson of Tallahassee, Fla., Ruby Jean Summers of Paris, Texas, Mary Lou Lux of Cary, N.C., and Joyce Hall of Tifton; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
