TIFTON – The third annual Tifton Antique Show and Sale, featuring antiques from approximately two dozen antique dealers around the Southeast, is scheduled Oct. 24-25, at the UGA-Tifton Campus Conference Center.

The Tifton-Tift County Public Library Foundation, a nonprofit organization, conducts the show and sale to benefit the local public library.

Admission to the show is $5. All money raised is used to enhance the public library’s collections and programming. The Tifton-Tift County Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization and donations are tax deductible.

This year’s show includes speakers on Saturday, Oct. 24, from Biltmore Estates in Asheville, N.C., and from Longwood Gardens near Philadelphia, Pa. The Biltmore lecture is scheduled from 11 a.m. until noon, and the Longwood Gardens lecture is 1:30 until 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are sold separately for both Saturday lectures and a special luncheon. Tickets for one lecture are $25. One lecture with the luncheon is $35; tickets for two lectures are $50; and tickets for the luncheon with both lectures are $60.

Luncheon reservations must be made by Saturday by calling 382-4486 or 382-6001.

Jimmy and Quay Allen are this year’s honorary co-chairs of the Antique Show and Sale. The opening, invitation-only, gala event for sponsors begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. The show gets under way on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and again on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 12:30 -5 p.m.

Once again, the Library Foundation is working with antique specialist Charlie Miller of Chapel Hill, N.C., in presenting the show. Miller will offer appraisals of personal antiques from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, and again from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at a cost of $5 per item appraised.

Hal Henderson, a member of the library board, said that the Tifton show is comparable to large antique shows held around the country.

“We have such a nice facilty at the UGA conference center here in Tifton to have the show and sale and we’ve rented the entire ballroom,” Henderson said. Henderson said the admission charge of $5 reflects a reduction in price from last year.

“We decided that we would like to give more people the opportunity to come to the show and sale,” Henderson said.

Sponsors include The Tifton Gazette, WALB-TV, the South Georgia Media Group, Tift Regional Medical Center, Plant Telecommunications, the FUN Channel, Wal-Mart and the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Association.
