Rants and Raves for February 19

What’s next?

“The people of Georgia are taxed to death as it is, so now our governor wants to throw a hospital bed tax at sick people — what’s next, a coffin tax on dead people? How much more of this current administration do we have to endure before somebody up there realizes you can’t tax your way out of a recession. Who elected these people, anyway?”

It’s getting

confusing

“There is a lot of talk about voting out the current bunch of Washington politicians. The problem with that is we would have to vote back in the same crowd we just voted out for screwing things up. This is getting confusing. Maybe it doesn’t matter who we vote in or out. Maybe we need a better system.”

Bring her back

“On Monday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., My Shih-poo puppy got loose next to the library. She had on a pink jacket with a pink leash. This puppy has helped my mom survive a stroke since July. She is blondish with tan toward her hips and has black around her face, ears and the tip of her tail. I have put fliers out around town and gone door to door. I am begging whoever took her or is keeping her to please give her back to me. There is a reward for her safe return. PLEASE DO NOT keep something that does not belong to you but give her back to her family. We need and love her desperately. Call me at 229-392-3348, 229-238-0625, or 229-776-5905.”

Any leads?

“Has anything ever been said or done about the Wideman murders that occurred almost eight years ago in Turner County. It is a shame that this case has been totally forgotten… and four people lost their lives. Just wondering if there were any leads in the case.”

Long-term fix

“Sure wish the city could do something about the big potholes that open up on Kennedy Road near Pineview every time it rains. The city patches, but the potholes keep coming back.”

Excellent letter

“Excellent letter written by Mr. Byrd. However, one point must also be made clear to readers. Republicans are called the party of ‘moral beliefs,’ but this is another deceptive tactic to fool voters. The Republicans have always been the party of ‘Big Business.’ Now the Democrats have joined them and are also a party of ‘Big Business.’ Nevertheless, America will once again become a nation of problem solvers and a beacon of hope for the human race.”

Children first

“I’d like to thank Chairman Shawn Utley, Rita Griffin and Kim Rutland for voting in favor of the adoption of the realignment of the sixth-grade school system. Mr. Atwater has always been a person that has had the children in mind first and I think it should be very prudent to see these board members’ support of one of the finest school superintendents Tifton has ever seen.”
