Blue Devils win baseball scrimmage
TIFTON — Getting a strong performance on the pitching mound from Sy Crumley, the Tift County Blue Devils won its preseason baseball scrimmage, 5-2, Friday over the Perry High Panthers in Perry.
Crumley went six innings, struck out three, allowed four hits and gave up only one earned run.
He was also 1-for-2 at the plate with one RBI.
Taylor Price finished the game off in the seventh, picking up the save, as he struck out one.
Seth Mann led the Devils at the plate. The third baseman went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Tate Bullard also had one RBI for Tift in the contest.
The Devils will get the 2010 season underway Monday on the road at Thomas County Central.
Game time will be 5:30 p.m.
Turner falls in semifinals
TIFTON — The Turner County Lady Rebels fell in the Region 2-A basketball semifinals Friday evening against Taylor County, 52-49.
With the loss, Turner will play at 10 a.m. today in the consolation contest against Greenville.
In the Taylor game, Turner was led in scoring by Anatania Graddic, who had 15. Zenia Coley added 12, and Demetria King scored 10.
ABAC tennis teams win league openers
TIFTON — A day after falling to Division II powerhouse Valdosta State in a pair of matches, the Abraham Baldwin tennis teams came back to win their Region XVII openers over Young Harris.
Playing home and away, the ABAC Fillies won 9-0 at Young Harris, while the Stallions took a 5-4 win at home over Young Harris.
For the Fillies, ABAC swept the doubles with Bia Miranda and Keri Huett winning at No. 1; Alejandra Gamboa and Lauren Smith winning at #2 and Jayhna Pope and Marley Myers winning at No. 3.
Gamboa (1), Miranda (2), Huett (3), Pope (4), Myers (5) and Lauren Smith (6) all won their singles matches.
For the Stallions, Martin Cederqvist and Romain Vieillard won at No. 1 doubles, while Carlos Perez and Derek Taylor won at No. 3 doubles. In singles, ABAC got wins from Rasid Winklaar (1), Carlos Perez (4) and Marcos Reveira (6).
Fillies return home to play Central Alabama at 2 p.m. Saturday.
