Recycling sites in Tifton/Tift County are available at several locations for people in the community to use.
Bert Crowe, the city and county’s superintendent of recycling, said that Tifton/Tift County has been recycling since the ‘90s. There were locations for recycling as early as 2000 with more sites being added along the way.
“These recycling sites help to lessen the burden on taxpayers and landfills,” Crowe said.
There are currently five sites: South Central on Pecan Street, Whiddon Mill/Carpenter on the southwest corner of Whiddon Mill and Carpenter Roads, Northside/125 on Highway 125 N., the Inert Landfill off Highway 82 E. and Tifton/Tift County Recycling Center at 7750 Magnolia Industrial Blvd.
The South Central Site accepts household junk, metal items, yard debris, all recyclables, household garbage in colored bags (available at City Hall), waste motor oil and waste coolant. No hazardous waste will be accepted.
Large loads of limbs or other wood material must be taken to the Inert Landfill for disposal. Its hours of operation are 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Whiddon Mill/Carpenter Site accepts yard debris, all recyclables and household garbage in colored bags. Its hours of operation are from 1 until 7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturdays.
Northside/125 Site accepts yard debris, all recyclables and household garbage in colored bags. Its hours of operation are from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturdays.
Inert Landfill Site accepts yard debris, all recyclables and household garbage in colored bags. Its hours of operation are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturdays.
Tifton/Tift County Recycling Center accepts all recyclables. Its hours of operation are from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays.
All services are free to the community at large and businesses of the Tiftarea. Drop off sites are provided throughout the county for recyclables, assorted containers and scheduled pick up depending on volume of product. Letters of destruction of documents are available for customers’ records and letters of appreciation are also available from the Tifton/Tift County Recycling and Keep Tift Beautiful for a person’s contribution to the community.
The community can benefit from recycling for a better and healthier living.
“It’s good for the environment, saves money for the citizens of Tifton/Tift County, and it’s economical for everyone in the community,” Crowe said. “It’s the right thing to do.”
