Rant and Rave for June 17

Think

“As a wife of a farmer, what you think will be a ‘Win-Win’ is actually a ‘Lose- Lose.’  We have tried to hire the ones that have gotten in trouble and can’t find jobs. They come out, work for about three hours, find a reason they have to leave and then ask to be paid cash so they won’t lose their government assistance. The only reliable workers on our farm have been the migrants, and your governor wants them out of here. How do you think you get your food on your table.”

Waste of time

“The red lights in Tifton have always been poorly timed. I recall driving across town through nine lights several years ago. I had to stop for eight of the lights and slow down for the ninth. This wastes a lot of time and should be checked out.”

Trickling down

“The drought map at the Georgia Automated Weather Network shows Tift County as having the largest rainfall deficit in Republican Austin Scott’s congressional district…This is Republican trickle-down economics in action. Stop being crybabies and keep waiting for the wealthy to buy your farms at drought-distressed prices. And, it’s just another reason to shut down the weather network. Collecting data just shows which location has the biggest problem.”

Water issues

“Today I’m having to have my pump lowered.  With all of the irrigation, it’s gone dry. I DO NOT water flowers or grass. I constantly see the streets of Tift County getting a good soaking.  I mean really?  We, the residents get no federal/state emergency money/help!”

And re-think

“The Tift County Board of Commissioners need to re-think their choice of Richard Golden to the Development Authority.”

Trouble

“I probably didn’t learn a lot about human nature when I worked in the criminal justice sector but I did observe that many criminals are dumb and/or lazy. That’s why they got in trouble in the first place. Trying to force probationers to go out in a hot field and pick produce will be more trouble than it’s worth. Maybe it will keep them off the streets.”
