Lucille Stephenson Hawkins

Mary Lucille Stephenson Hawkins, 97, of Tifton, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today, at Oakridge Cemetery with Dr. Danny Ray officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:30 p.m. today at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Jim Greer, Anna Greer, Tate Greer, Greer Echols, Jacob Echols, Ross Echols, and Gary Greer will serve as pallbearers.

Born Sept. 9, 1913, in Tift County to the late John Stephenson and Mollie Bass Stephenson, Mrs. Hawkins was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Marion Hawkins; her son-in-law, James E. Greer Sr., who died in 2007; as well as nine brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Hawkins, a homemaker, had lived most of her life in the Harding and Brighton community in Tift County. She was affectionately known as “Nanny” and “Aunt Lucy” by her family. She had worked at the Varsity Drive In, Tift Health Care and the lunchroom at Harding School.

Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Harding United Methodist Church, where she had served as president of the Women’s Methodist Church Society. She also was a former president of the Home Demonstration Club in her community.

Mrs. Hawkins is survived by one daughter, Mollie Jo Hawkins Greer of Tifton; her grandchildren, Joy Greer Echols of Amelia Island, Fla., and Jim and Caren Greer of Tifton; her great-grandchildren, Greer and Cassey Echols, Jacob Echols, Ross Echols, Anna Greer and Tate Greer; and one great-great-grandson, Cayden Echols. Mrs. Hawkins is also survived by numerous family members and friends who loved her very much.
