Tift sinks region golf title

 The Tift County Lady Devils golf team took the Region 1-AAAAAA championship Monday at Spring Hill Country Club while the Blue Devils fell just short for second place.

The Lady Devils rolled to their championship, their 246 being 18 strokes ahead of runner-up Colquitt County. They also had the event’s low medalist, Anna Greer, who shot a 77.

Her teammates also had a tremendous day on the links. Kelsie Belan shot an 85, followed closely by Lynsie Belan (85) and Aubrey Pollock (90).

Tif’ts boys were neck-and-neck with their opposition. They finished eight strokes behind Colquitt, who took the title and only one ahead of third place Lowndes. Tift’s team score was 304.

Grant Metts had the lowest score at 72. Ty Gore shot a 75, Camden Collins a 78, Sam Tucker, 79, Zach Forshee an 80 and Charlie Cottle had 81. The top four scores go toward the team score.

Sectionals take place May 5, with the state tournament occurring May 19.
