The Tiftarea YMCA recently donated a portion of their proceeds from the fifth annual Tour de Tifton and Ilse Boyette Memorial Bicycle Ride to the Tift Regional Medical Center Foundation. The event was held in mid-April and 150 cyclists enjoyed riding along the countryside of Tift and surrounding counties. There were different routes for beginner to advanced riders ranging from 11 to 100 miles in length.
These funds benefit the Ilse Boyette Book Scholarship made possible through the TRMC Foundation. This $500 scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis to a non-traditional student who needs assistance with books. This scholarship is in honor of Ilse Boyette. She was a dedicated registered nurse at Tift Regional and an avid bicyclist who helped organize, volunteer for and participate in the first Tour de Tifton Bicycle Ride in 2009 to raise money for the Tiftarea YMCA youth programming. Boyette spent more than 20 years at TRMC making an impact in the lives of area patients. Her legacy still continues today, as she is still making a difference in our community.
