Tifton’s ‘rising star’ is wed; and back in LA

Austin French will perform Sunday night in the quarterfinals on ABC’s “Rising Star” – just two days after his wedding. He married his sweetheart, Joscelyn Marshall Friday.

Tifton’s Austin French is a rising star – and now he’s a married man as well.

French married Joscelyn Marshall Friday, and headed right back to Los Angeles to perform in the quarterfinals of the hit show, “Rising Star” tonight.

French, who is the worship pastor at Journey Church in Tifton, has performed twice on the show already, and America voted, as well as the show’s vocal experts, Ludacris, Kesha and Brad Paisley, to push him on to the next level.

The bride has traveled, along with French’s mother, Kim French, to watch him perform, something that he says meant a lot to him.

“Knowing my biggest fans were sitting on the sideline and watching was incredible, especially when that wall went up  and I could see their reactions,” he said.

But the success French found on the show has been costly. ABC covers his meals and lodging, but when the new Mrs. French travels to be by his side, the couple has to pay.

And they’ve even had to cancel their honeymoon, which was non-refundable, because he had to be in LA to compete tonight.

A fundraiser site has been established for the couple at www.gofundme.com to raise $3,000. By Friday afternoon, $1,830 of that had been raised. The site has been shared multiple times on Facebook and Twitter, and you can view it at http://www.gofundme.com/c6m5ro.

The show airs tonight at 9 p.m. You can vote for French by downloading the free app at http://abc.go.com/shows/risingstar/news/app/download-the-rising-star-app.
