Rants & Raves – October 1

The board of education in Tift county pays a person $63,000 per year to send in newspaper articles to the papers. The $63,000 is the base salary for that position. I have a master’s degree, and have taught for 25 years and don’t make anywhere near that. Someone please find out why and let the teachers know. Thanks BOE!

Dear Tifton: 1) Pick up the trash on time! You raise my taxes but won’t pick up the trash on Thursday! 2) Animal control: Do something after I call you four times! You have done nothing! Again, taxes go up, services go down! Ridiculous!

I wanted to thank the high school for putting on a great parade. I also wanted to send a big great job to Publix for showing there support fore Tifton. I only wish more companies would do so.

Thank you Lord for another day. Help me be more understanding, compassionate, loving and forgiving.

The city voted to outsource half of its workforce to an outside company. Outsourcing more than half of the city’s workforce may be the first step to a “one unified” county government. Keep coming up with these bright ideas and the county might be able governor the entire city.

Why didn’t the city offer a public hearing to inform the taxpayers that they were transferring more than 100 jobs to ESG? This council reminds me of the old Citynet council. The citizens should be informed about a decision that impacts the city’s employees. The taxpayers pay these salaries and desire to be properly informed.

This message is to TCHS/TCBOE regarding homecoming. The girls’ dresses are inappropriate for a school function, most are half naked! Party buses and limos should be searched for alcohol before the students are allowed to enter the school! There is rampant alcohol use of minors! These are clear violations of board policy that should be enforced!

Tift County football fans need to take more pride in their stadium. Brodie Field looks like a trash dump after a football game. If you don’t believe me; stay after the next home game and see for yourself. Trash goes in a trash can.

Unique Boutique, owned by Nan Roberts, is a first-class consignment shop! I’ve lived in several towns in different states and have never visited another consignment shop as classy as this one! It’s a great addition to the downtown shopping district on Second Street. Thanks, Nan. Keep up the good work!

Noticed on Saturday afternoon that the old “Tifton Ice Plant-Branch Food Market” building as being removed. A rave to this decision. Many memories of these buildings in my youth but was time to improve this eyesore. Wisdom and not sentiment has prevailed.

I frequent a few businesses in the Fulwood Place shopping center on Magnolia Drive. The businesses are great, but their parking lot is horrible! There aren’t enough spaces and 3 inches of mud in the middle of the parking lot. Whoever manages that property really needs to get some work done!
