TIFTON – Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough wants parents to know the sheriff’s office and other local officials are working to keep sex offenders away so that each child can enjoy their Halloween holiday.

Most registered sex offenders on probation or parole are required to report in person to the Probation Day Reporting Center at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 30 and will remain there until 9:30 p.m. These offenders have a curfew from 6 p.m.-6 a.m. as well as other conditions that have been imposed by probation officers.

Those who are not required to report are those with written verification of employment during those hours or have approval of their probation or parole officer for certain special conditions.

On Oct. 31 most registered sex offenders on probation or parole again have curfew hours from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. and other conditions that have been imposed by probation officers.

Probation and parole officers will be out making multiple contacts with these offenders

during the evening on Halloween.

Scarbrough said the sheriff’s office will also be conducting special patrols in neighborhoods where registered sex offenders reside who are not on probation or parole.

The sheriff added that deputies conduct address verification checks each month on all sex offenders registered in Tift County. In October addresses have been verified on all registered sex offenders residing in the county.

The sheriff said residents can go to the department’s website at www.tiftsheriff.org to view registered sex offenders that reside or are employed in Tift County.

He encouraged citizens to register their e-mail address on the website to receive alerts when a sex offender registers an address in their neighborhoods.
