MOULTRIE – On Aug. 3 the final class of Medical Assisting students graduated from Moultrie Technical College. Graduates were honored in a pinning ceremony and included Timothy Walker, Meredith Cox, Chrissy Fields, Betty McIntyre and Nikki Foster. This graduating class achieved an exceptional milestone by having a 100 percent pass rate on the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Exam. Students who are graduating at the end of the summer semester from the former Moultrie Technical College (MTC) and (SWGTC) will officially be graduates of those institutions. After the summer semester, all students will be graduates of Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC).

“Moultrie Technical College and now Southern Regional College’s tradition of having high pass rates on occupational boards and certification/licensure exams continues with our most recent Medical Assisting graduates. This is an outstanding accomplishment by our students and an integral step in the MA occupation. I wish them the best and know they will be great ambassadors for our college as their careers progress,” said SRTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth.

These students completed one semester of prerequisite coursework as well as multiple semesters of rigorous occupational coursework including a series of clinical rotations at local medical offices.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of CMAs is projected to increase at a rate of 29 percent between 2012 and 2022, which is much faster than the 11 percent projected average growth rate for all occupations.

“I am very proud of my students’ accomplishments and the hard work they put into completing the Medical Assisting program and passing the certification exam. They will make great CMAs and be a wonderful addition to the profession. I wish them all the best,” said Jill Burnette, Medical Assisting instructor at SRTC’s Veterans Parkway Campus in Moultrie.
