VALDOSTA, Ga. – As Halloween approaches, there will be no shortage of frights around Lowndes County.

One tradition in Valdosta can be found on Adair Street and has become known as the “Adair Street Horror.”

Up and running for 14 years, the strictly volunteer-run house is full of frightful sights, all for a good cause. Charles McCrea of the Adair Street Horror said proceeds from the house go to help “severely mentally and physically challenged individuals” and provide them with community outings and activities, Christmas gifts and personal items throughout the year.

Adair Tour Guide Susan Flanders has been a part of the horror since the beginning.

“It started with just three or four of us,” Flanders said. “It has now gotten so big.”

The house now runs with 15 to 20 volunteers.

From the sidewalk, Adair Street Horror appears to be just another typical house on the block until the tour guide sweeps you from the porch into the foyer.

Groups are led through a maze of themed rooms, ranging from a classic chaotic clown party to a trip inside the hit show “Stranger Things.”

The Adair Street Horror is located at 200 E. Adair St. and will be open 7 p.m.-11 p.m., Oct. 26-31. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids.

Staff recommends parents use discretion when choosing to bring younger children given the nature of the scares.
