Lloyd named second team All-State, seven Fitzgerald players picked by GSWA

TIFTON — The Georgia Sports Writers Association named its all-state awards to close out 2016, giving more area players a chance to rack up honors.

The Tift County Blue Devils had one of its potent receiving threats selected as Fred Lloyd was named to Class AAAAAAA’s second team as a tight end. Lloyd, a senior, was second highest on the team in 2016 with 608 yards on 33 catches.. He was tied for second in receiving touchdowns, with five.

Class AA’s first team was loaded with Fitzgerald players, a testament to the Purple Hurricane’s second straight season in the state championship game.

Fitzgerald had seven players named to the first team: James Graham (quarterback), J.D. King (running back), Lecitus Smith (tight end), Jason Poe (offensive line), Marlon Jackson (defensive line), Donterius Milsap (linebacker) and Josh Reliford (defensive back).

King, who was the GSWA’s Class AA Player of the Year in 2015, finished his high school career with more than 5,000 rushing yards. He led Fitzgerald in both rushing and receiving in 2016. King was named all-state first team or honorable mention three years by the GSWA in high school.

Graham threw for 1,725 yards and ran for 956 yards on the season. He accounted for 39 touchdowns.

Milsap, Jackson and Reliford all were responsible for more than 100 tackles.

Four Turner players made the cut for Class A’s squad.

Tamorrion Terry was picked at wide receiver and Malik High at offensive line for the offense and defensive backs Ontario Wilson and C.J. Burgess on defense.

Both Wilson and Terry were for all-around athletes for Turner. Terry had 1,187 yards and 19 touchdowns as a receiver, but also rushed for scores and played defense. Among Wilson’s many highlights were a four-touchdown game against Wilcox County in which he scored on a kickoff return, a punt return and twice on interceptions. Wilson was also active as a receiver.

In Class AAA, Cook’s Brandon Doe was named to the offense’s first team. Doe, a junior, finished as the state’s leading rusher through the regular season. In 11 total games, he ran for 2,157 yards. It took 15 games for Mike Thomas of Thomson to overtake him for the state lead.

Worth County had Bryan Manuel named at offensive line and David Lee Little picked at tight end in the first team. Ryan Alligood was named honorable mention.
