FITZGERALD — A Ben Hill County grand jury formally indicted Bo Dukes Monday for alleged involvement in concealing the murder of Tara Grinstead, according to court documents.

Dukes, 32, was charged with concealing a death, tampering with evidence and hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal.

The indictment accuses Dukes of burning Grinstead’s body in a Ben Hill pecan orchard in October 2005.

Investigators said the statute of limitations does not apply to Dukes because the “crime was unknown” until February 2017.

In February, Ryan Duke, Bo’s former classmate and longtime friend, was arrested and charged with Grinstead’s murder.

A week later, Dukes was arrested and charged with helping Duke hide the body. Dukes was released after only a couple hours in jail. Duke is still incarcerated.

Duke and Dukes both attended Irwin County High School when Grinstead was a teacher there.

Grinstead was reported missing in October 2005. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation followed up on hundreds of leads and conducted numerous interviews, but the case remained cold for more than 11 years. Her case is the largest file in GBI history.

The GBI said a fresh tip caused investigators to link Duke — and subsequently Dukes — to the crime.
