Homicide probe continues in VSU student death

VALDOSTA – Valdosta police investigators are still following up on leads in the death of Valdosta State University student, Valdosta Police Lt. Adam Bembry said Thursday.

Zachary Butler, 19, was found dead from a gunshot wound in an apartment at The Gates at 7:42 p.m., July 12. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Offices in Macon ruled the death a homicide.

Butler was a 2016 graduate of Tift County High School.

The shooting occurred at the apartment sometime before 7 p.m., according to police.

For now, investigators are following leads and requesting anyone with information contact the Valdosta Police Department, Bembry said.
