THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville Police Department (TPD) investigation that began in August continues as detectives constantly gather intelligence in cases that span three months.
Numerous incidents of nighttime commercial burglaries, stolen vehicles and entering autos have occurred in the U.S. 19 South area, said Sgt. Toby Knifer, assistant commander of the TPD Criminal Investigations Division. Some have occurred in unincorporated areas just outside the city.
Culprits are stealing everything from firearms and money to golf carts and other vehicles, Knifer said, adding that most of the vehicles stolen had keys in them.
Intelligence shows the incidents might possibly be related.
Three golf carts stolen from a 19 South business were found a short time later off Cassidy Road. Knifer said the vehicles did not travel on a highly-visible route to the other side of town, but along paths and back roads.
“We’re processing the golf carts for evidence and looking at surveillance video to identify the suspects,” the detective said.
Knifer described the incidents as “snatch and grabs” committed by three or four individuals.
Residents are asked to call 911 about any suspicious activity they witness, such as “a golf cart at 3 o’clock in the morning,” Knifer said. “If you see something that’s a red flag, it’s possibly not right.”
Knifer said those seeing suspicious activity should attempt, if possible, to get a physical description of individuals, a clothing description, direction of travel and how many people were seen.
