Devils now 4-0 in region play after win over Lowndes

TIFTON — The Tift County Blue Devils improved to 4-0 in Region 1-AAAAAAA Friday night with a 58-46 victory over Lowndes in Valdosta.

The Lady Devils had a 26-21 lead at intermission in their game against the Vikettes, but Lowndes exploded in the fourth quarter to win 59-47.

Tift head coach Chris Wade said Montavious Terrell scored 20 points for the game and dished out eight assists. Marquavious Johnson scored 13 points. J.J. McClain added 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Devils were ahead, 12-11, after the first quarter, but trailed 27-23 at intermission. They outscored Lowndes 11-3 in the third period before adding 24 points in the fourth.

The win boosted Tift’s season record to 14-6. A win over Colquitt County next Friday in Tifton would wrap up the regular season region title.

Lowndes, who fell to 13-8, got 11 points from Alex Johnson, according to MaxPreps. Johnson was the only Lowndes scorer in double figures.

The Lady Devils, who dropped to 0-4 in conference play, had a tremendous game from Nicky Jones. Stats entered on MaxPreps show Jones with 18 points and four rebounds.

Tift also got eight points from Tamari Way and six from Denise Duggins. Way also had seven rebounds and three blocks.

Tift County’s teams are to host Worth County tonight at 7 p.m.
