TIFTON — The skies finally cleared Feb. 18 for the annual Rally for Reading at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Led by executive director Mike Brumby, the fifth annual Rally for Reading was presented by the Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence (TCFEE). One of the event’s aims was to help endow the Terri Nalls Reading Angel Chair, the 17th named by the organization.

Nalls, who was in attendance Sunday, said the chair being named in her honor was “very unexpected.” She said she was overwhelmed by the honor. Nalls was the media specialist at Charles Spencer Elementary from 1996-2017 and helped Tifton obtain the distinction of Reading Capital of the World.

Other special guests at the event included former ABAC tennis coach Red Hill, Solomon Nixon III and Ricki Reader. Nixon, who has read to attendees, brought along a copy of “Kings & Queens of England and Scotland.” He also dazzled the ABAC tennis players with his knowledges of languages spoken in their home countries.

ABAC tennis players were on hand for doubles matches with attendees. All of the players were generous with tips and lessons for younger athletes.
