Blue Devils take tennis victory over Lowndes

Jacob Smith returns a serve against Lowndes Thursday. The Blue Devils defeated the Vikings, 4-1, Smith winning his match in straight sets.

TIFTON — The Tift County Blue Devils split tennis wins with Lowndes Thursday, with the win by the boys being a special one.

Head coach Ivey Vickers said she could not immediately remember the squad’s last victory over the Vikings.

Tift took that win in dominating fashion, winning four out of five and sweeping at singles.

Calvin Chee won over Brant Chancy (6-2, 7-5), Jacob Smith defeated Connor Chancy (6-6 (8-6), 6-3) and Mason Layfield recovered a win over Ryan Wilkinson (6-2, 6-1). In doubles, Brandon Thompson and Samuel Lawson combined to topple Will Jones and Brandon Harris (6-6 (8-6), 6-6 (7-5).

Nathan Trees and Eli Farmer defeated Mason Lewis and Lee Hancock (6-4, 6-6 (7-5), 6-3).

Lowndes won all five girls matches.

Hannah Lindsey defeated Macy Weldon (6-0, 6-1), Hannah Gandy won over Kerrigan Turner (6-1, 6-0) and Amber Daughtrey defeated Laura Turner (6-0, 6-0).

In doubles, Halle Gandy and Megan Hawkins teamed up to win over Taylor Walker and Liz Fallin (6-1, 6-1) and Tori Vorhees and Kariah Freeman were victorious over Anna Bowen and Dana Wells (6-2, 6-1).
