TIFTON — Tiftarea Academy and Tift County High basketball players picked up postseason honors recently.

The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association released its 2018 All-State team and the Georgia Independent School Association named both All-Region and All-State.

Tift’s Nicky Jones made the GACA All-State team. A sophomore, Jones averaged 10.2 points per game this season to lead the Lady Devils. Jones’ season high was 20 points, which came at Camden County in a 67-61 double overtime victory. She ended the year with an 18-point game against McEachern in the second round of the state tournament.

Shaunteria Taylor was named to the GISA All-State team. Taylor, a senior, was also her team’s leading scorer. She scored 391 points in 2017-18 for an average of 17 per contest. Her game high was 31 points against Brookwood and she topped 20 points seven times in 23 games.

Taylor finished her career with 928 points.

Three Lady Panthers made the GISA All-Region team for 3-AAA, Taylor, Carson Bryan and Abby Carswell.

Bryan, also a senior, averaged nine points per game this season. Carswell averaged 13 and at 806 career points is a likely candidate to pass 1,000 points as a senior next year.

Two Tiftarea Panthers were All-Region picks: senior Riley Mims and junior Spence Massey.

Mims led Tiftarea in scoring, with Massey finishing second.

All five of Tiftarea’s all-region players won the same honors in 2017. Taylor and Carswell both netted all-region in 2016.
