TIFTON — Spring Hill Country Club will host the annual Blue Devil Invitational girls golf tournament Monday.
Tift head coach and athletic director Rusty Smith said the tournament would get off to a shotgun start at 2:30 p.m. Eleven teams will be involved. Besides Tift, Coffee, Colquitt County, Houston County, Lee County, Lowndes, Northside (Warner Robins), Valdosta, Pierce County, Veterans and Ware County will participate.

Smith said Valdosta and Pierce County had strong teams. “Moultrie’s always good,” he said. Elizabeth Funderburk, the world class runner for the Lady Packers, is equally talented on the links. Veterans and Houston County are also expected to mount a challenge.
As for his own team, Smith said, “We’re improving.” The Lady Devils are made up of Kaysie Harrelson, Caelan Collins, Callie West and Gracie Brumfield.
Harrelson, the team’s ace, has a golf scholarship with Georgia Southern.
“Our goal is to qualify for state,” Smith said.
Tift County advanced to state last year after a strong area tournament at Spring Hill. The Lady Devils won’t have that advantage this year, however. Area for boys and girls is to be held at Monroe Area April 30.
