The South Georgia Angels visited ESPN’s Wide World of Sports for one of the teams’ many tournaments in March and April.

TIFTON — The South Georgia Angels Girls basketball club’s season is off to an amazing start, according to a press release.

This year, the program has approximately 60 young ladies ranging from grades 3-11 and the teams are divided into four grade level groups: fifth, sixth, eighth and 11th grades.

On March 17, the fifth, sixth, and eighth grade teams traveled to Tallahassee, Fla.,  and competed in the Comets Round Robin tournament. All three teams did well.

The fifth grade came up short on game one, but won game No. 2 and the sixth and eighth won both games.

On March 23-25, the sixth and eighth grade teams traveled to Cobb County to compete in the Georgia Slam and Jam YBOA (Youth Basketball Of America) tournament. The sixth grade team went 5-1 for the weekend, losing by two points at the buzzer against the Marist Lady War Eagles 40-38. The eighth grade team went 5-0 for the weekend, winning the championship game, 61-54, against Lion Power.

April 13-15 the sixth grade team traveled to Orlando, Fla., and competed in the Spring Fling Basketball Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. They lost game one 55-43 to Chobee Nation and then won three games in a row, making it to the final four before losing to Chobee Nation again, 39-36 overall record of three wins and two losses for the weekend.

This week, the eighth and 11th grade teams will be heading to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the Classic.

The South Georgia Coaches and Players would like to thank everyone in the community for all the support that has been given as we continue to travel and play basketball.
