ABAC athletes earn Academic All-American

CHARLOTTE, NC — The National Junior College Athletic Association released its 2019-10 All-Academic teams Friday and multiple Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College students made the list.
Twenty-four ABAC athletes earned All-Academic status, with at least one athlete per sport making the teams. To make the list, athletes had to earn at least a 3.6 GPA. First team required a perfect 4.0 GPA, second team was between 3.8-3.99 and third team was between 3.6-3.79.
Six players made first team All-Academic. Those were Abbey Adkins (softball), Taylor Haddock (soccer), Jessica Lindsey (women’s tennis), Tiago Marques (men’s tennis), Kati Mills (softball) and Karli Williams (softball).
Second team selections were: Desirae Beachem (softball), Arianna Calcatelli (women’s tennis), Lorenzo Del Biondo (men’s tennis), Chloe Evans (soccer), Sheridan Lowry (soccer), Amber Maxwell (softball), Taylor Middleton (softball), Irene Romero Redondo (women’s tennis) and Bailey Spires (softball).
Third team academic All-Americans were: Joshua Campbell (golf), Melissa Escalante Alvarado (soccer), Jenna Hickman (softball), Caleb Lanoux (baseball), Kenneth Limyadi (tennis), Phuong Pham (men’s tennis), Katie Royals (softball), Matt Terrill (baseball) and Olivia Wright (soccer).
In addition to the individual athletes, four ABAC teams were honored by the NJCAA for having cumulative GPAs above 3.0.
Softball topped the list with a combined GPA of 3.63. That was 13th out of all NJCAA schools nationwide. Men’s tennis earned a 3.52, seventh among all NJCAA schools. Women’s tennis was close behind with a 3.5. Golf earned a 3.02 GPA.
