American Legion begins to gear up for Tifton Fair

- The 84th Coastal Plains Agricultural Fair at the American Legion Fairgrounds is scheduled to run from Nov. 3 until Nov. 8.
TIFTON- The local American Legion chapter has started organizing and getting ready for the Tifton Fair.
The fair is scheduled to run from Nov. 3-8, and on the first day there will be a flag raising ceremony for several dignitaries. The dignitaries will include Tifton Mayor Julie Smith along with city council board members and county commissioners. The flag raising ceremony will start at 4:30 p.m.

The hours for the fair on Tuesday will be from 5-10 p.m and on Wednesday from 6-10 p.m. Wednesday will be students night, allowing all students from any grade level to get in the gate free.
On Thursday the fair will run from 6-10 p.m., Friday from 6 p.m. – 12 a.m., on Saturday 2 p.m. – 12 a.m., and on Sunday from 1-7 p.m.
There will be approximately 50 booths set up including games, food venders, and an assortment of rides. Vehicle dealers will be located in the center and will be selling off-road vehicles as well.
This will be the 84th year the American Legion Tifton Chapter has hosted the fair. The first fair was in 1936 and has since been a long standing tradition for the Legion to host this fundraising event.
The rides will include a ferris wheel, carousel, the Ring of Fire, and two surprise rides that will be revealed the week of the fair.
All of the fair rides come from Lisko Family Midway Amusements Inc. and according to Dale Gay, Fairgrounds Manager and American Legion member, they have a clean track record and passed all tests regarding safety.

“80% of the money we raise from the fair goes right back into the community,” said Gay. “This is our biggest fundraiser.”
The American Legion supports numerous organizations and activities in the community and they are constantly giving back to their community said Gay.
Temperature checks will be done at the gate and anyone with a fever will not be allowed entry. Hand sanitization tables will be set up at every ride. The operators will the disinfect the rides at the end of every iteration. Rides will also be spaced out further than usual to prevent the spread of germs.
All American Legion members with a current non-expired membership i.d. get in free every day.
Parking is free at the fairgrounds located at 1312 US Hwy. 82 E.
