ATLANTA (AP) — Republican Rep. Austin Scott cruised to victory in middle and south Georgia’s 8th Congressional District, winning his sixth term.

He easily defeated Democrat Lindsey Holliday and write-in Green Party member Jimmy Cooper.

Scott, a loyal defender of President Donald Trump, has focused many of his efforts on the interests of his district, including agriculture, rural hospitals and supporting military bases.

Holliday, a Macon dentist and environmental activist, eschewed campaign contributions, arguing Trump was a danger to democracy and that the federal government’s top priority had to be combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

The district covers all or part of 24 counties stretching from Macon to the Florida line.
