Tift reports 3 deaths, 100 virus cases

TIFTON – Tift County reported three virus-related deaths and about 100 new COVID-19 cases during the past week, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Tift County has reported 77 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH. The county records 12 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported more than 3,150 cases since the pandemic began earlier this year, according to the GDPH, and more than 1,000 antigen cases; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.

The county has reported about 360 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH.

Statewide, Georgia has reported more than 680,000 confirmed cases and about 136,000 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic. The state reports antigen cases — results from rapid virus tests — as part of its daily status report.

The state has reported more than 11,000 deaths. The GDPH suspects there have also been more than 1,200 probable deaths related to the virus.

More than 46,600 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with 7,957 admitted to an ICU. 

More than 5.9 million COVID-19 tests have been performed with a 10.9% positive rate, health officials reported.

The state has performed more than 425,000 antibody tests — which show signs of past infection — with the state reporting a 12.5% positivity rate.
