TIFTON- The Daughters of the American Revolution donated a state flag to G.O. Bailey in honor of Georgia Day.
Georgia Day celebrates the day the first Georgia colony settlers landed on what would become Savannah, on Feb. 12, 1733. The Georgia General Assembly made it an official state holiday to preserve the history of the state.

The Tallassee chapter of the DAR said this is their second year doing this. Last year the chapter started the tradition by donating a Georgia Flag to Tift County High School.
DAR Tallassee chapter member Bobby Fresh said she drives around looking at schools in the county and sees which ones have state flags and which ones don’t. Eventually, Fresh said the chapter’s goal is to have a state flag at every school in the county.
The students chosen from G.O. Bailey Primary School to receive the state flag are responsible for raising and lowering the flags every morning and afternoon. Fresh said she passed out individual Georgia flags after the students learned a little bit about the history of Georgia.
