Tift reports no virus deaths, a dozen cases

TIFTON – Tift County reported no COVID-19-related deaths and only a dozen cases during the past week.

Tift County had reported 90 deaths by early in the week – all since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH. The county records 24 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported about 3,320 cases since the pandemic began last year, according to the GDPH, and about 1,275 antigen cases; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.

The county has reported nearly 400 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH.

Statewide, Georgia has reported about 790,800 confirmed cases and about 174,000 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic. Antigen cases show results from rapid virus tests.

The GDPH has reported about 14,000 deaths with nearly 2,000 probable deaths related to the virus.

More than 53,000 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with nearly 9,000 admitted to an ICU. 

More than 6.8 million COVID-19 tests have been performed with an 11.1% positive rate, health officials reported.

The state has performed more than 462,000 antibody tests — which show signs of past infection — with the state reporting a 14.9% positivity rate.

More than 1.4 million people have received the vaccine, between Pfizer and Moderna allocations.
