Tift reports about 10 new virus cases, no deaths

TIFTON – A year after South Georgia began reporting COVID-19 cases, Tift County reported about 10 virus cases and no deaths the past week.
Tift County had reported 92 deaths by early in the week – all since the start of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The county recorded 28 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported about 3,370 cases since the pandemic began last year, according to the GDPH, and more than 1,340 antigen cases – a rise of about 40 in the past week; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.
The county still reports just more than 400 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH.
Statewide, Georgia reported hundreds of virus-related deaths during the past week, raising the total to more than 15,600 and counting early in the week, with more than 2,300 probable deaths related to the virus.
Georgia has reported more than 827,400 cases and counting since the start of the pandemic.
Georgia has reported about 195,000 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic.
More than 56,000 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with more than 9,200 admitted to an ICU.

More than 7.3 million COVID-19 tests have been performed with an 10.9% positive rate, health officials reported.
The state has performed more than 481,000 antibody tests — which show signs of past infection — with the state reporting a 16.2% positivity rate.
More than 2.28 million people have received the vaccine, between Pfizer and Moderna allocations.
