Tift reports one death, handful of virus cases

TIFTON – Tift County reported less than 10 virus cases and one related death the past week.
Tift County had reported 94 deaths by early in the week – all since the start of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The county recorded 29 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported more than 3,380 cases since the pandemic began last year, according to the GDPH, and more than 1,350 antigen cases – a rise of only a few cases in the past week; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.
The county still reports about 410 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH.
Statewide, Georgia reported about 16,100 COVID-19-related deaths early in the week, with more than 2,380 probable deaths related to the virus.
Georgia has reported more than 843,000 cases and counting since the start of the pandemic.
Georgia has reported about 202,500 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic.
More than 58,000 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with about 9,500 admitted to an ICU.

More than 7.6 million COVID-19 tests have been performed with a 10.7% positive rate, health officials reported.
The state has performed more than 492,000 antibody tests — which show signs of past infection — with the state reporting a 16.9% positivity rate.
More than 3 million people have received the vaccine, between Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson allocations.
