Tift reports few virus cases

TIFTON – Tift County reported fewer than a handful of COVID-19 cases last week, with no cases or related deaths reported for several days running.

Tift County was still reporting 94 deaths by early in the week – all since the start of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The county recorded 29 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported about 3,400 cases since the pandemic began last year, according to the GDPH, and more than 1,400 antigen cases; antigen cases saw a slight bump in numbers – less than a dozen reported – during the past week; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.

The county still reports about 410 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH.

Statewide, more than 862,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Georgia since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The state had reported about 17,000 deaths with more than 2,500 probable deaths related to the virus.

Georgia has reported more than 211,000 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic. 

More than 59,000 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with nearly 9,800 admitted to an ICU.

More than 7.9 million COVID-19 tests have been performed with a 10.5% positive rate, health officials reported.

The state has performed more than 504,000 antibody tests — which show signs of past infection — with the state reporting a 17.5% positivity rate.

More than 4.67 million people have received the vaccine in Georgia, between Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson allocations.
