Tift reports two virus deaths

TIFTON – Tift County reported two COVID-19-related deaths in the past week and about a handful of new virus cases.
Tift County has reported 96 deaths by early in the week – all since the start of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The county has recorded 29 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported a little more than 3,400 cases since the pandemic began last year, according to the GDPH, and more than 1,420 antigen cases; antigen cases saw a slight bump in numbers – a little more than a dozen reported – during the past week; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.
The county still reports about 410 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH.
Statewide, nearly 869,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Georgia since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
The state had reported more than 17,000 deaths with more than 2,500 probable deaths related to the virus.
Georgia has reported more than 215,000 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic.
More than 60,000 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with nearly 9,900 admitted to an ICU.

More than 8.1 million COVID-19 tests have been performed with a 10.4% positive rate, health officials reported.
More than 5.16 million people have received the vaccine in Georgia, between Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson allocations.
According to the GDPH website, the state is pausing all Johnson and Johnson vaccinations until further notice under the instruction of the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control.
