Tift reports virus-related death

TIFTON – Tift County reported a COVID-19-related death and about a half dozen new COVID-19 cases during the past week.

Tift County had reported 98 deaths by early in the week – all since the start of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The county has recorded 29 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported more than 3,460 cases since the pandemic began last year, according to the GDPH, and more than 1,470 antigen cases; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.

The county reported 417 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH.

Statewide, about 896,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Georgia since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The state had reported more than 18,000 deaths with more than 2,700 probable deaths related to the virus.

Georgia has reported about 228,000 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic. 

Nearly 64,000 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with more than 10,500 admitted to an ICU.

More than 7.1 million state residents have been vaccinated, according to state health officials. The article in the edition last week contained an error in reporting the state vaccination number.
