TIFTON — The Tift County Recreation Department has opened registration for fall sports.

Cheerleading (ages 5-12), football (5-12) and soccer (4-13) are available. Football has divisions for youth flag football and tackle football. Registration is $50 for each for Tift County residents and $62.50 for non-residents. The age control date is Sept. 1, 2021.

Parents or guardians are asked to provide black or white football pants with pads. Football’s league play begins in late September and soccer’s begins in October.

Registration can be completed at the Tift County Recreation Department, located at 401 Victory Dr. Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. To register, TCRD needs a certified copy of the applicant’s birth certificate and the activity fee. Online registration is available at https://secure.rec1.com/GA/tift-county-recreation/catalog. Registration runs through Aug. 13.

In letters to parents, TCRD answered questions it said it had received from parents about the upcoming seasons. There will be daily screening for coronavirus and its symptoms. TCRD areas will be cleaned and disinfected frequently, including between games.

If a player does become ill during a game or practice, he or she will be isolated and transported by EMS to a healthcare facility if needed.

Athletes and coaches are being asked to furnish their own water bottles. To limit crowd sizes, participants and parents are asked to arrive on time and leave immediately after a practice or game.

TCRD is requesting that parents and spectators wear a facemask at practices and games. Coaches and players are exempt, but may wear a mask if they desire.
