Tift reports virus deaths, hundreds of new cases

TIFTON – Tift County reported two COVID-19 deaths and hundreds of new virus cases in the past week, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. 

Tift County had reported 106 COVID-19-related deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH. The county has recorded 31 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported more than 3,950 cases since the pandemic began last year – a rise of more than 200 new cases since last week, according to the GDPH, and more than 2,270 antigen cases, which is about a 200-plus increase from what was reported last week; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.

The county has reported about 435 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH. 

Statewide, Georgia had reported more than 982,500 positive COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic as of late last week – seeing daily increases of new cases in the thousands, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The GDPH has recorded aboutv 19,000 confirmed virus-related deaths and about 3,000 probable deaths. The state has reported more than 270,000 antigen positive cases since the start of the pandemic.

More than 68,800 virus-related hospitalizations have been reported statewide since the start of the pandemic with more than 11,600 admissions into intensive care units reported.

Georgia’s vaccinated population — which includes those with at least one dose and fully administered — was at approximately 9.10 million with more than 87,500 people having a vaccine administered per 100,000, according to the GDPH.

About 4.99 million have had at least one shot and 4.28 million are fully vaccinated.
