TIFTON — The Tiftarea YMCA is hosting its first-ever Cancer Awareness Walk on Oct. 2.
The walk will be held on the track behind the YMCA building on Carpenter Road. There will be a mass start at 9 a.m. and will last until 11 a.m.
Registration for the YMCA Cancer Awareness Walk can be done in person at the Y or online at tiftareaymca.org. Tiftarea YMCA CEO Jason Bishoff said people signing up before Sept. 21 will receive a free shirt.
Admission is free to the event. A donation center will be set up on site.
Dustin McAlpin, who is heading up the walk, said all proceeds will go toward supporting the Y’s LiveSTRONG program. The LiveSTRONG program, which McAlpin said is making its return to the Tiftarea YMCA, supports adult cancer survivors with a 12-week program that focuses on physical health.
In addition to donations at the walk, signs are available for $20 that allow those purchasing them to honor someone who has battled cancer and names will be listed on the signs.
“They can put that up around the track,” Bishoff said.
After the walk, Bishoff said donors can take the signs with them.
Yard signs can be purchased via the registration form.
