CHULA — Several Tiftarea Academy football players were recently named to Georgia Independent School Association postseason honors.
Tiftarea head coach Erik Soliday announced lists for All-State and All-Region.
Quarterback Dylan Harbort made first team All-State after a remarkable senior campaign. Harbort ran for 1,553 yards in 11 games played, scoring 17 touchdowns. He threw for 1,243 yards and 14 scores. Harbort’s season rushing high was 279 yards (and four touchdowns) against Valwood, a rainy game that saw him run 35 times on the 38 plays attempted by the Panthers.
Harbort also had 200-yard rushing games against Southland Academy and Brookwood.
Not content to just star on offense, Harbort was the team’s leading tackler, with 79 of them. He threw in two sacks, a forced fumble and a punt return for a touchdown.
Honorable mention All-State selections were Cason Peavy, John Austin Lee, Wesley Malone and Mason Tyler.
Lee was Tiftarea’s second leading rusher, racking up 345 yards and three touchdowns. He had a 100-yard game against Trinity Christian. Tyler’s 366 yards were tops for receivers, as well as his four touchdowns, as well as four sacks on defense. Peavy had a pair of touchdown catches.
Malone recorded 53 tackles, three for losses.
On the Region 3-AAA front, Harbort earned the well-deserved Player of the Year award.
First team selections for All-Region were Harbort, Wesley Malone, Tyler, Lee, Peavy, Matthew Malone and Dustin Conger. Matthew Malone did a bit of everything for the Panthers, mostly as a receiver and defensive back. Conger excelled on the line.
Honorable mention picks were Jake Henderson (OL), Kameron Brown (DB), Cubbie Crosson (DB), Justin Moore (WR), Ches Mangham (OL) and John O’Quinn (LB).
In addition to the awards, a handful of Tiftarea players participated in the annual All-Star game. Harbort, Peavy, Wesley Malone and Tyler played for the red and blue teams on Dec. 10 at John Milledge Academy in Milledgeville.
The Panthers finished 6-6 in 2021 and advanced to their fourth consecutive Class AAA semifinal game.
